I have been playing around with this idea (which I believe is first seen in Paul LePaul's card to wallet routine) for a while now but didn't really know what to do with it. Today, while filming a completely different trick I suddenly realized what I had to do with it.
As far as I know, this ruse was first published in The Magic of Francis Carlyle (1975) in the context of Carlyle's handling of the LePaul card to wallet.
